I was on my way to a party tonight in Albuquerque, getting onto the interstate, and as I merge into traffic I see a police car accelerating to catch up to me. Lights come on... I pull over... cop tells me I was going 83 in a 65. Granted, I was probably accelerating a little excessively, but I had just shifted to third... not to mention that my friend Dom was watching the speedometer and I was going 70ish. Oh... and my radar detector never went off. So, the cop goes back to his car and we wait, and he comes back with TWO tickets... one for speeding and the other for an "illegal exhaust system," which he tells us is anything that's not stock. At this point, we're pretty pissed, so we ask him if he clocked me with radar and he tells us he had. We ask to see the radar readout (it's my understanding that NM statutes allow for a motorist to request to see the radar readout...). He refused, saying he hadn't locked it in because he wanted to keep monitoring me to see how rapidly I decelerated. Again... detector never went off... it's a bogus ticket, and so's the exhaust ticket. So, I'm really pissed. I got pulled over last weekend (but didn't get a ticket) for going "too fast" in an empty parking lot. I was going like 10 mph. Does anyone else get targeted as much? I drove a Honda Accord here for almost four years, drove pretty much just as fast, with a big loud shitcan muffler, and never got a ticket. Sorry... had to vent a little. :)
